Learning + Sharing at Trustbit

One of the questions most asked by potential employees in their initial engagement with Trustbit is about 10% time for learning and sharing. On our careers page it states:

As a team, we want to continuously improve our expertise, our knowledge and our methods. That’s why we invest 10% of our weekly working hours on learning & sharing ...

All Trustbit employees are encouraged to use on average up to 20% of our time to work on non-billable activities. We don't have a set day where everyone stops work; We are each responsible for deciding when it suits us to do so. Thus far, there have been no restrictions on what learning you can pursue. You are not required to undertake to learn but when you do, we encourage folks to share what they have learned either internally through the internal wiki or by writing a post on our blog. Sharing our learnings is one aspect that we are nowhere near our goals in achieving.

Our blog, and recently our use of LinkedIn stories, are the primary routes for advertising to the outside world who Trustbit are. It is vital that we give folks a view of what Trustbit is involved in.

We have employees in 11 different countries and we communicate almost exclusively in English. However, most of our employees have English as a second or even third language. Sharing your learnings is useful as a path to developing a better grasp of English.

Improvements

We are proud of what we have achieved so far but there is still room to improve.

Better Tracking of Low Take Up

Trustbit views the time we spend on learning and sharing as an investment in each employee as well as an investment in the Company. We would hope that we can easily help anyone who doesn't know what to investigate or improve. We generally are not tightly constrained by project/product deadlines, so nobody should be unable to find time each week for their own learning.

Improve Sharing What We Learn

Currently, there is a lot of learning but nowhere near enough sharing. We offer support to folks writing posts with grammar and spelling plus more general guidance on the structure of posts. We need to find approaches to sharing that our employees find suitable.

And finally

Along with a commitment to encouraging continuous learning, we also work on some really cool projects. We are always on the lookout for talented folks to join our teams at Trustbit. If you're interested in learning more, go our careers page (https://trustbit.tech/careers) for further details.
